On Wednesday, 9th October, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, the Oluwo of Iwo, was officially appointed as the Chancellor of Westland University, Iwo.
The historic presentation ceremony took place at the Oluwo’s Palace, where the University’s top management team paid a formal visit to present the official letter of appointment to His Majesty. The occasion was filled with warmth, celebration, and renewed hope for the institution’s continued growth and influence.
In his acceptance remarks, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi expressed his gratitude for the appointment and commended Westland University’s vision of building a world-class academic environment rooted in excellence, innovation, and character. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the University’s development and ensuring that its presence continues to benefit the people of Iwo, Osun State, and Nigeria at large.
The University Management described the appointment as a significant milestone that strengthens the bond between the institution and its host community. By combining traditional authority with academic leadership, the appointment of the Oluwo as Chancellor is expected to enhance Westland’s public image, attract strategic partnerships, and inspire a culture of progress across the institution.
Widely known for his advocacy of youth empowerment, education, and cultural preservation, His Majesty’s influence is set to open new doors of opportunity for Westland University — both within and beyond Nigeria.
“This appointment is not just symbolic — it is a union of tradition and academia, working together to nurture knowledge, values, and vision,” said a member of the University management.
As the University continues to expand its programs and facilities, this moment marks a powerful alignment between leadership, culture, and education — a true reflection of Westland University’s mission to create lasting impact through knowledge and community development.
